Badgley Mischka: A Perfect Partnership

The American pair, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, have been a force in the fashion world since their debut in 1988, when they still studied at the famous Parsons School of Design. Celebrity patrons in particular loved the tone of the pair’s work, glamorous and feminine, while still playful. Their acclaimed bridal collection followed in 1993, then other lines like accessories, jewelry and fragrances.

Great Minds…

James Mischka was not involved in fashion at all, at the start. When he attended Rice University, he studied biomedical engineering for a time. When he graduated in 1985, he had degrees in art history and managerial studies – knowledge that would serve him better than he knew in the future. The big change in his life came when he met Mark Badgley at Parsons School of Design, and the two found they had some ideas in common.

The two created the label Badgley Mischka in 1988, and were an immediate success. The creation of their line of bridal fashion in 1993 made them all the more famous. Celebrities flocked to buy their clothes, ranging from Melissa Etheridge to Oprah Winfrey to Queen Latifah to Helen Mirren.

The stylish yet wearable fashion of Badgley Mischka has made a huge impression, not just on the world of celebrity, but in fashion. Their style appeals to the young and the sophisticated – but any women of any age can wear their clothing and look great in it. Their goal is to look back to the Hollywood of the 1940s, when fashion was simple, but still so very elegant.

This philosophy extends to their fragrances, as well. When they released their first fragrance in 2006, Badgley Mischka wanted to find something that capture the soul of their brand. Most believe they succeeded wildly, as they have in so many ways before.

Simply Glamorous

The first scent was named after the label: Badgley Mischka. It is a wonderfully floral and feminine fragrance, as elegant as their clothing, classic yet accessible. It has a certain timeless quality that transcends current or past fads, remaining as glamorous now as it was when it was first launched.

Next came Fleurs de Nuit. It is luxuriantly floral, mixed with tones of wood. White florals, lily, white peach, night blooming jasmine, and amber are combined to create a wonderfully romantic aroma, whether for formal occasions, or for those nights meant just for two.

Badgley Mischka Couture was released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the brand. As always, they were inspired by some of the most charismatic, beautiful, and charming women of Hollywood. For instance, violets were used due to the amazing violet color of Elizabeth Taylor’s eyes. Sharon Stone inspired the use of gardenias. Even the bottle is shaped to suggest the body of a woman in an evening dress. Wearing Badgley Mischa Couture is like walking the red carpet – an amazing experience which is impossible to be forgotten.

A Shared Vision

It is a sign of the brilliance of the Badgley Mischka duo that they are able to produce such quality creations, from fragrance to fashion, yet appeal to so many. It is their vision of classic elegance that has made them one of the hottest labels in the world today.

Women such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, Catherine Zeta Jones, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Julia Roberts have all been seen wearing Badgley Mischka clothing, particularly to red carpet events where their exquisite gowns particularly shine.

From the time they met at Parsons School of Design, Badgley and Mischka realized they shared an artistic vision unlike any other. They understand each other when it comes what people wear, whether evening gowns, bridal gowns, or a particular scent. Before establishing their label, they showed their talents by designing for leading names like Donna Karan and WilliWear.

Lately, they have turned their attentions to a younger, more modern, customer with some contemporary selections of clothing. Not only does this open up the genius of the label to new customers, but it offers more affordable selections so the everyday woman can wear Badgley Mischka creations.

Of course, any woman of any age can wear Badgley Mischka. Their work can be found in many of the great stores – Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales, as well as their own personal boutiques in Beverley Hills and Palm Beach. And more is yet to come, including a flagship store in New York City. Since the 1980s, Badgley Mischka has been going strong, with no signs of stopping any time soon.
